My Time at St. Mary's

My time at St. Mary's has been incredible! It has been rough and happy, but it was all worth it. From kindergarten poems, to 3rd grade endangered animals, to my entire 8th grade year, and everything else in between! After all these years here at St. Mary's, it's time to say goodbye. It's finally coming to an end. It's finally becoming real to me. St. Mary's will be apart of my life forever! Someone who really made my time at St. Marys even better was Mr. Smith. I feel like I have grown in my faith more deeply. he is more than just a teacher, he is someone you can talk to. He has taught me that even though you might not understand some, you should try to take something out of it. He always has great advice and always has a joke to tell. Mrs. Slotsve is also someone who has helped me. She's funny and will always help you with anything. She taught me that hard work pays off! Mrs. Stewart is also a great teacher! She's more "do it at your own rate" kind of person. That has really helped me learn better at times. Mrs. Nylund is amazing! She has helped me grow academically! i don't know what I would do without all of these teachers! Mrs. Berg has also taught me a lot more with grammar and other things that make writing and posting better! Mrs. Elsner has helped me get through a lot! She is always there to listen and always has great advice! I've grown up with all of my classmates and I don't want to leave them behind. My hope for next year is that we can all be friends. We're more like brothers and sisters than just friends! We go to each other for everything, it would be hard to leave that behind. Some people are saying they can't wait to leave St. Mary's, but that's the total opposite of me! This experience has been such a big part of my life, I don't know where I would be with my faith and friends if I had never gone to SMS. St. Mary's gave me the oppurtunity to not only learn and talk about Christ, but to expirence Christ's love for me and others.  I will miss you, St. Mary's!!!

Borrowing Money

Money by Images_of_Money
Images_of_Money
This is another post for my 21st Century Class at school. We have been learning a lot about loans and borrowing money through some videos online. I learned that if you borrow money from a bank, you have to do some research about what is the best choice for you and your situation. Some have higher interest rates and some have lower. It just depends on how much you need to loan and how long it will take you to pay it back. If you choose a plan that isn't the best choice for you, you could end up paying way more than you anticipated. Make sure you are also careful with credit cards, because if you're not you can end up with a lot of debt that may be hard to get rid of.

ELC 2012!!!

This post is about my trip to ELC!!! Every year at my school the 8th graders get to go up to Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center (ELC) for one week! We don't just get to go though. We have to work to earn our trip. You need to do 30 hours of work that benefits the school. I am SOOOO glad I got all my hours done, it was super fun! We left really early in the morning and got up to Wolf Ridge around lunch time.  Some things we did over the week were rock climbing, adventure ropes course, Superior View Hike, small mammals, stream study, beavers, FIRST games (team building activities), and LOTS of walking! My favorite activities were the Superior View Hike and the Adventure Ropes Course! The hike was so beautiful once you got to the top! You could see for miles and miles! I was a little nervous about the ropes course, just because I have never done anything like it before! I told myself that no matter what I was going to finish and do the entire course! I did! I was SOOOO proud of myself! ELC really helped me find out who I am. It was just a great week with all of my classmates! We got along most of the time! I am really glad I got to know them better! I can't believe that my 8th grade year is almost over:(

What is Work???

Work might not always be fun, but with hard work comes fun times! This is another post for my 21st Century Skills class at school. We have been talking about jobs, money, and savings lately. Once I leave school (i'm thinking college) I want to be either a NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) nurse, flight nurse, or something that really helps out people in the community. Those would be a very rewarding job to me. Work might not be as enjoyable to some. That might be because they don't have the job they really want, but might be the only one available. My dream job would be just a job that is very rewarding and something that gives back to the community. My dad has really influenced me to do something that means more than just a paycheck. In my opinion if you don't get paid for work than it's not really work. Usually work at school is more like projects and things that you have teachers and others to help. But in work outside of school you might not always have someone there to tell you what to do.

This is another blog post for my 21st Century Skills class at school. We have been learning about giving people credit for using their images off the Internet. We also watched a video explaining what can happen if you let other people use your images without attribution. What I know is that you should give credit to the people whose photo you're using. There are many sites that don't have copyright images that you can use. For example: Flickr Creative Commons, Pics4learning, and Freefoto. I personally like using Flickr C. C. There are different limits you have with the different websites.  Some will have a symbol that says people can only use your image if they give attribution. That is just one of many more symbols that are used. Now that I have read and watched a video about this I understand this topic better than before.

The Ways I $pend Money

Here is another post for my 21st Century Skills class. It is about how I spend my money!

I usually spend my money on things like make-up, jewlery, clothes, shoes, books, & etc. Instead of buying more clothes when I have plenty I can save it and put some of it away for my college fund and other long term goals. Books are great, but I could check them out at the library more and save that money for other goals too!

Spring Break 2012!!!

This year for spring break my family and I went Up North!!! We stayed at a condo that was very nice. it was right on the lake! So everyday we went down to Lake Superior and found cool rocks and took lots of pictures of the lake and waterfalls and family! We went hiking on Carlton Peak, Will's Lake, and Lake Agnes ! All were BEAUTIFUL!!! Lake Agnes was my favorite though because we walked right next to Lake Agnes almost the whole time! It's such a pretty hike because no houses or anything can be built on it so it's just nature all around you! We also went to my friends cabin and played games, went on a hike, and had supper together! Here are just a few pictures of our trip!!!

When we left our condo we stayed at a hotel in Duluth! My dad and sisters went swimming! I went shopping in downtown Duluth with my mom and one of my younger sisters! I didn't buy anything though:( There wasn't very many stores open because it's the off season until summer. We ordered pizza for supper and ate it on our hotel beds and watched a hockey game! I love spending time with my family! On the day we were going home we drove across the Aerial Lift Bridge to Park Point! There is a BEAUTIFUL white sand beach by the big lake! It would have been more fun, but it was only about 50 degrees out! Buuuurrrrr!!! I can't wait for spring break 2013!!!

Spring Break!!!

Hey! For spring break this year i'm going Up North! We get to go by the lake, go hiking, spend time with family, and RELAX!!! I am SOOOOOO ready for a break! I also love kayaking and reading up there too! It takes about 6-7 hours to get there! It's a LONG car ride when you have two little sisters sitting next to you! I'm very excited to go, even if my sisters drive me crazy! I also like going shopping too!

Health Care in The Supreme Court

This blog post is about the new health care law that the Supreme Court is considering. It is for my 21st Century Skills class. If it is passed it will require that every American will have to have health insurance or pay a fine. This law is called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Some people agree with this law, but others don't. Some Americans feel like the federal law is forcing them to buy something that goes against the constitution. I don't really have an opinion on this, because I think I would need to know a little more about it to tell how I feel.

Minimum Wage and Child Labor Requirements

This post you are reading now is a post from my 21st Century Skills class at school. It is about child labor and minimum wage for teenagers with jobs. The hours a teenager under 16 can work during the school year is no more than 3 hours per work day, no more than 18 per week, and they are not allowed to work after 7:00pm. During the summer time they can't work more than 40 hours per week, and no more than 8 hours per day. They cannot work earlier than 7:00am and no later than 9:00pm. The only rules for teenagers ages 16-17 cannot work earlier than 5:00am on school days and can't work any later than 11:00pm.

In Minnesota there are 3 different minimum wages depending on the size of your business. The minimum wage for a large employer it is $6.15 per hour. A small employer is $5.25 per hour, and the training wage is $4.90 per hour. These are all state minimum wages. There is also federal minimum wages. The workers can earn this amount plus any other money they earn like a tip.

One of my favorite things to do is go hiking, especially with my friends and family. I also enjoy reading, school, and being with my friends and family. I play the flute and I am in choir. I have one dog named Hobbs, he is a Goldendoodle. I love going on walks with him and play outside with him. I also love hanging out with my friends! We have so much fun together. We go to each other's houses, go to movies, and go shopping!
